VIP Auditions

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Sing with accompaniment of somekind a 1-minute solo or duet

2. Group vocalizes and group singing

3. Signed contract—by you and your parent (you will not be scheduled into the class without

this contract.

4. Choreography

5. A teacher recommendation attesting to your dependability, cooperation, and service record

6. A copy of your third nine-weeks report card

 

You must have the above mentioned items before coming to auditions...I must make decisions quickly and cannot wait for you to get me contracts, recommendations, etc.

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP INTO THE VIP'S

 

VOCAL ABILITY

In your audition, you will be evaluated on tone quality, intonation, and musicality through the selections you perform and through various exercises as requested by the director. Other elements of proper singing such as diction, dynamics and proper breathing should also be demonstrated.

 

DANCING ABILITY

During your audition, you will be taught a short dance combination to evaluate your level of skill and learning ability. A dance background is helpful; however, you are encouraged to perform a selection demonstrating that ability during your 2-minute vocal solo.

 

CHARACTER

High moral and ethical character is required of theVIP's who serve as ambassadors for Capital High School, Kanawha County, and the state of West Virginia. A confidential letter of reference from a teacher or other qualified person to assess your character should be submitted to the director.

 

STAGE PRESENCE

You will be evaluated on your ability to perform and how you look on stage. You should also demonstrate your ability to relate to the audience and express physically the meaning of the music

 

ACADEMIC ABILITY

Your academic ability in terms of your grade point average will be taken into consideration. Members of the VIP's must maintain passing grades specified in the contract while practicing daily and afterschool. If your grades fall dangerously low, then performance with the VIP’s may be withheld until you have adequate time to show improvement.
