Kathleen Gardner Corbett is currently Director of Vocal Music at Capital High School in Charleston, WV. She directs the State and National Award Winning VIP’s of Charleston, WV.
Kathleen received a Bachelor of Music Education from The King’s College in Briarcliff Manor, NY and a Master’s Degree plus 45 hours from Marshall University, Huntington, WV; SUNY, NY; West Virginia College of Graduate Studies, Charleston, WV. Her choirs have ranked in many National Competitions with Superior Awards and Grand Champions. Kathleen studied voice with Miss Irene Jordan of the Manhattan School of Music and the Metropolitan Opera. She has been a soloist in opera and oratorio with the Tagkonic Choral Society, NY; the Ossining Choral Society, NY; the West Virginia Opera Theater; The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra; and the Charleston Civic Chorus.
Kathleen often works as vocal/choral clinician and adjudicator for show choirs and festivals across the country. She has served as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Charleston, Charleston, WV. She is an active member of the Music Educator’s National Conference, the West Virginia Music Educator’s Conference, and the American Choral Director’s Association. Kathleen helped develop the pilot program for the inclusion of the Fine Arts Program utilized at Capital High School. Her program was one of four featured in an MENC publication on the subject. Kathleen is presently President Elect for the West Virginia Music Educator’s Association and has served as the President of the West Virginia Vocal Music Association, chairperson for the West Virginia State Show Choir Festival, the Kanawha County Choral Music Festival, the West Virginia All State Chorus, and past officer for state and county Vocal Music Associations. Kathleen also serves as Founder and Director of the Capital High School VIP Show Choir Invitational.
Kathleen’s other teaching responsibilities include a mixed chorus, a vocal jazz ensemble, and group piano. Capital High School has a very active Performing Arts schedule that involves all of the Arts teachers for many school and county functions. She is married with two children, Peter and Kristopher. Her husband is the Vice-Principal of George Washington High School in Charleston as well as an avid Scuba Diver. They have a scuba and travel business in their spare time. They also sing professionally for many area churches and community groups.
