Course Description:

To show government in the United States at 3 levels; how it works and how they can participate in it. The purpose of the class is to show students that people can make a difference in what happens in this nation.

Course Objections:

I. To introduce students to the use of various tools to help them gather and analyze information about the actions and programs of government.

2. To provide information and instruction about participation in government.

3. Analyze political cartoons.

4. Read flow charts to follow the process of amending the constitution.

5. Interpret pie charts and line graphs to understand the budget process.

6. Use decision trees to plot alternatives and their consequences.

7. How to get information from a government agency.

8. How to file an income tax return.

9. How to work for a political candidate's campaign.

10. What to do if a person wants to do volunteer or community work.

Specific Requirements:

Students grades will be derived from the following:

Written assignments, quizzes, tests, oral presentations, research projects, conferences, creative projects, portfolios, demonstrations, laboratory experiences, field trips and notebooks.

Students are expected to bring the appropriate texts, paper, pencil, and pen to class each day.

Grade Scale:

A = 94 -100%
B = 86 -93%
C = 76 -85%
D = 70 -75%
E = 0 -69%
