Welcome to the English Department of Capital High School

I am Kathy Humphries the department chair. The English department has always been perceived as the backbone of a school. We are proud that over the years we have been responsible for many innovative strategies.  “Word of the Day” and “DOL” (daily oral language / sponges) originated with the English department.  These two strategies are used across the curriculum every period of every day. We are proud of the fact that we are one of the largest departments and we serve all CHS students.

Our Mission Statement

Capital High School’s English department is a place where teachers can teach and students can learn academic skills, acquire appropriate social behaviors, achieve individual potential, and develop positive character traits in order to become productive citizens and life-long learners/readers in the 21st century.

Our department provides each student with a more personalized education in a safe nurturing learning environment. Fostering a spirit of inquiry through various media, we prepare all students to be global citizens who can work cooperatively, responsibly, and respectfully with others.
