Welcome to the World Languages Department of Capital High School

Mission Statement: To provide students with a significant level of proficiency in a world language other than English in order actively participate in a global climate.
Welcome to the homepage of World Languages at Capital High School! Our school enrolls over 75% of our student body in a world language other than English. Our permanent teaching staff consists of three Spanish teachers and one French teacher. Additionally, we offer Latin, Japanese, and German through distance learning.
Since the inception of our school, our department has had the added advantage of having a native exchange teacher in residence to help with the advanced Spanish classes, thus offering our students a cultural experience beyond regular textbook learning. This year’s intern, Noemí Arranz hails from Penafiel, Spain. This year, we are also fortunate to have a student teacher, Rebecca Holcomb, from West Virginia State College working with Mrs. Alcazar’s classes.
Our extracurricular cultural activities include celebrations of Day of the Dead and Mardi Gras, and the end of the year culminating in an International Luncheon with food prepared by the students from variety of Spanish and French speaking areas.
