Ms. Legg holds a Bachelor of Science in Education with a specialization in English. She studied dance locally under Andre' Van Damme at American Academy of Ballet, currently run by Kim Paukey, and recieved her early childhood dance training from Judy Carney and Helen Schaeffer. She studdied Classical Ballet and Modern at WVU before opening "Appalachian Academy of Preforming Arts", developed with her brother David to educate youth in all aspects of the preforming arts. She was co-owner and principal choreographer for all shows and competitive work.
Ms. Legg is certified through Dance Educators of America where teachers are required to take classes and be tested for proficiency before certification is given. In addition, she travels each summer to classes, workshops, festivals, ect. to stay on top of what is current in dance. She is a member of the National Dance Association, National Dance Educators Organization, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreeation and Dance, and a charter member and sponsor (Capital High Chapter) of Nu Delta Alpha dance honorary. She is also Vice-Chairperson for the WV Secondary Dance Alliance. Ms. Legg was recently chosen as one of two State representatives for Dance to be a Master Trainer for the WV Department of Education's new 21st Century Learning Skills initiative.
Ms. Legg has done freelance choreography for Dance Teams, troupes, Color guard and Majorette lines, twirlers, and Show Choir organizations all over the Southern and Eastern US. Her choreography has won numerous awards on the local, regional and national levels. She has also choreographed the shows Quilters, No No A Million Times No, Annie Get Your Gun, Snow White, Good News, Scrooge, How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying, Crazy for you,Oklahoma and Guys and Dolls.
Ms. Legg has been a guest clinician and adjudicator in Florida, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and West Virginia. She has attended conferences and clinics to stay abreast of new styles and techniques in dance. She has been privileged to take class under such artists as: Joe Tremaine, Frank Hatchett, Gus Giordano, Nan Giordano, Charles Kelly, Al Gilbert, Germain Salsberg, Louis Kavouras, Duncan Noble, Barry and Joan Lather, Doug Caldwell, David Howard, and many more. She believes that to be a great teacher you must be a lifetime learner, “We learn something from every single individual who touches our life whether they be good or bad. It is what we do with these lessons that shapes our level of impact on society and our personal success.” For Ms. Legg, personal success is constantly striving to get better. She states, “There will always be someone better than you, when you feel you are the best it is time to quit. You have nothing else to work for or toward.”
