Capital High School
About Us

The Capital High Dance Company is an auditioned ensemble of dancers from all walks of life. The diversity in this group definitely lends to its interesting blend of styles. On average, this group maintains an overall GPA of 3.6 or higher. These students are highly motivated, hard-working, well-rounded overachievers.

Capital High School is the only school with the facilities and the curriculum to support a group that explores all the styles of dance. The Company will do pieces that include but are not limited to: tap, jazz, classical ballet, contemporary ballet, modern, lyrical, musical theater, and cultural. The director, A. Michelle Legg, as well as many guest artists train the Company members in the technical, artistic, creative and performance aspects of dance as an art.

The company produces a Professional Choreography Concert and a Student Choreography Exhibition during the school year. The group also takes part in many other activities and events throughout the year such as Pep Assemblies, Holiday performances, Competitions and Conventions, the West Virginia Dance Festival, The WV Secondary Dance Alliance Weekend Celebration, and SCORES to name a few. Every other year, the Company attends the NATIONAL High School Dance Festival and in January 2007 began an annual appearance at “THE PULSE” convention which is connected to Broadway Dance Center and the summer dance sensation “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Capital High’s Dance Company is dedicated to promoting the art of dance throughout the community and state. The students work an after school dance program for children in Kindergarten through eighth grade. For more information, or to book the Company for a performance, contact Ms. Legg at 348-6500 ext. 159 or aml5567@att.net.
