Capital High School
History

Capital High School was formed in 1989 with the consolidation of Charleston High and Stonewall Jackson High. It is located at 1500 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, West Virginia. Capital High School is a state-of-the-art, comprehensive high school for students of all ages. 

A newly consolidated school, Capital High School serves approximately 1300 students, grades 9-12, representing a broad cross-section of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, from infants to senior citizens. With its emphasis on student-centered learning, integrated curriculum, and technology, Capital High School represents a new direction for Kanawha County Schools. Merging technology with the traditional academic disciplines empowers students to become critical thinkers, capable of anticipating and adapting to change.

In addition to the traditional course offerings and school activities, Capital High School provides opportunities for students to explore and develop individual, specialized interests and talents. Many course and activities, co-curricular and extra-curricular, offered at Capital High are unique to secondary schools. Capital High School is Kanawha County's magnet school for the Performing Arts.

Courses offer at Capital High School include: theatre, film classics, ten AP courses (Computer Science, Calculus, Physics, Literature English Language, World History, Government, Art, Spanish and Chemistry), Anatomy/Physiology I/II, Engineering, AutoCADŽ, J-ROTC, Award-Winning Band, Award-Winning Show Choir and Dual Credit Biology. An on-site daycare center and distance learning center with Asynchronous Transfer Mode technology are also available.
